Retail Bay
A compact CNC layout for a retail or demo space, suited to South African counters where customers want to see the cut.

Countertop CNC in view
Retail Bay is about placing a compact CNC machine where customers can watch the work happen. It suits counters, demo areas and front-of-shop spaces where footprint, noise and a clean presentation matter as much as the cut itself.
Retail Bay is meant for a machine that works in front of people, not hidden in a back room. Think acrylic tags, MDF display parts, engraving blanks and light aluminium jobs where chip control, extractor routing and tidy cable runs matter on a customer-facing counter. In South African retail spaces, plug position, shutter dust and shared power circuits often shape the layout as much as the cutting area.
Take one photo of the machine position before the first demo day, including extraction, power and stock storage. That record helps when the bay is moved for a promotion, a centre refit or a new till point. Staff can then return the machine to the same clearances, screen angle and workholding setup without guessing.
What the bay needs nearby
A retail CNC setup works better when the machine, extractor, tooling tray and sample rack are planned together. Visitors should be able to see the cut, while the operator still has room to load material, reach the E-stop and clear swarf safely. Good presentation in this setting comes from spacing and routine, not extra display pieces.
Use Retail Bay when the machine must earn its place in a showroom, counter line or demo corner. Link it with the relevant note in Labs or Insights before changing machine size or material scope.

Retail conditions that change layout
Shopping centres, school foyers and maker counters all place different limits on a compact CNC station. Noise during trading hours, stock carried through the same space and lock-up security after closing can all affect where the machine sits. If the bay shares room with POS equipment or display stock, note that from the start.
Coastal humidity can mark bare metal stock and push more frequent wipe-downs on rails and fixtures. Inland dust from street frontage or nearby cutting areas makes covers and extractor checks more important during the day. Power-cut planning also matters here, because an interrupted demo in front of customers is very different from a stopped shop run in the back.

Details worth sending first
Send counter dimensions, machine viewing side and the materials you want cut in public view. Also mention if children, walk-in customers or school groups will be close to the machine during operation.
Keep the Retail Bay note with the site sketch, power details and sample list used in the space. That makes later changes easier when the bay is moved, the machine is replaced or the display brief shifts to a new product line.
